Over 1 Million Meals Packed

Nationally, September 11th is Patriot Day and a National Day of Service and Remembrance. On this day Americans across the country are called to volunteer in their local communities in tribute to the individuals lost and injured in the attacks, first responders, and the many who have risen in service to defend freedom. It has grown to become the largest annual day of charitable service in the United States.

As with the nationwide Day of Service, AARP Foundation’s 2019 Celebration of Service Meal Pack Challenge is an initiative where staff and volunteers commemorate those lost and the benevolence of those who helped on 9-11 by engaging in volunteer projects on September 11. The goal is to improve the lives of others within their communities.

This year, on September 11, members of our Vertex team joined more than 3,800 volunteers from AARP and the Greater Washington community to help pack 1,010,304 meals! The over 1 million meals packed will be distributed to older adults in the Washington, DC region by the Capital Area Foodbank.

An AARP Foundation study shows that nearly 9 million older adults face the risk of hunger – meaning they are forced to skip meals or buy poor quality food. We all can be a part of the solution and work together towards ending the tragedy that is hunger in America.

Vertex is committed to service – both as a business and as a member of the greater community. We were honored to be a part of this year’s 1 million+ meal pack event! It is a small way in which all of us can reach out and help others. We will be back next year!
