Student Chapter Competition at FiO/LS – Now Accepting Entries!
Registration Deadline: 1 September 2016

OSA challenges chapters to create innovative new education outreach demonstrations to share in a friendly competition taking place this October at Frontiers in Optics/Laser Science—OSA’s 100th Annual Meeting.

This year’s competition is to create and show case NEW demonstrations using components of the Explore Optics Kit and easily contained household materials.

Host a 2017 IONS Conference at Your University
First Application Deadline:
15 August*

The Optical Society is now accepting applications for the 2017 International OSA Network of Students (IONS) Conference season. If a member of your chapter has attended an IONS or plans to attend one this year, you can now submit an application to host an IONS Conference through the  OSA Grants Database.

Centennial Special Events Grant and Featured OSA Student Chapter: University of Southampton Chapter
The OSA Student Chapter at University of Southampton was awarded a Centennial Special Events Grant where they teamed up with Mencap Southampton and worked with eight young adults with learning disabilities You can read their full blog post on The Optical Society Blog. To submit a blog entry, complete the Blog Post Submission Form and send a photo to chaptersandsections@osa.org

Make sure to bookmark 15 August—this is the final deadline to apply for a Centennial Special Events Grant for this year. Apply through the OSA Grants Database today.

Student Chapter Flag Photo Contest – Two $400 Grant Prizes Available

All chapters in good standing should have received the new OSA Student Chapter flag earlier this year along with an OSA Centennial flag. To participate in the photo contest, make sure your chapter sends chaptersandsections@osa.org a high resolution image by 31 July that shows chapter members with one of the two flags. OSA staff will choose one photo in each category (Student Chapter Flag or OSA Centennial Flag) to receive the $400 prize. Photos will be judged on the creativity and clarity of the image. Write the Future: Win $500 and a Trip to FiO 2016!

Submission Deadline: 31 July 2016

Enter the “Write the Future” story contest and share your vision of optics and photonics. To participate, write a short fiction story in 300 – 500 words on the future of our field. The winner will receive a cash prize of $500 as well as a free trip to Frontiers in Optics. The winner will also be recognized at FiO and have their story published in OPN. All entries will receive a commemorative gift.
