The ACTION Registry® and Get With The GuidelinesSM
CAD Join Forces
The two national leaders in cardiovascular care, the American College of
Cardiology (ACC) and the American Heart Association (AHA), are participating in
a joint venture to create the only national acute myocardial infarction (AMI)
data registry focusing on high-risk patients with STEMI or NSTEMI - ACTION
Registry®-GWTG™. Since the AHA and the ACC have had
a long-standing collaborative relationship, particularly in the area of
science-based treatment guidelines, working together on this program was a
natural progression of that relationship.
Please view the following for more information:
NCDR® Research and Publications Expansion The
number of research projects in the NCDR research pipeline has increased
dramatically since January 2008 to a total of 13 manuscripts - the greatest
number submitted per quarter in NCDR history. The ACTION Registry leads in the
number of research projects submitted since March 2008 with 8 research projects
at the ACC Annual Scientific Session and 11 research projects submitted for
committee review in June. And 21 NCDR abstracts have been submitted for the
American Heart Association Annual Scientific Sessions in November 2008: seven
for the ACTION Registry, eight for the CathPCI Registry®, four for the ICD
Registry™, and two for the CARE Registry® (CARE
Registry data have just recently become available for research proposals). For
more information on the expansion of the
Research and Publications Team.
NCDR Customer Service
Initiatives
The
NCDR implemented a new phone queue system at the end of May. The system allows
the efficient movement of phone calls between the Service Center and the
Clinical/Account Management Teams. Additionally, this system generates
statistical reports allowing leveling of resources to address peak demands. This
phone queue project lays the groundwork for the next stage of our customer
service improvement efforts. In July, NCDR anticipates the go-live of new
customer relationship management software. This system will permit tracking of
participant calls, automation of communication, and solutions for issues in a
central location. These two projects will support our continued efforts to
improve our customer service.
These projects could not have been accomplished without the
dedication and skill of a multi-disciplinary team at Heart House. Key leaders in
include: Calvin Wang, Ganesan Srinivasan, Mark Fox, Diane Logsdon, Linda Namett,
Peggy Hennessy, and Srinivas Muthyala.
NCDR to Develop Certification
Programam NCDR has heard participant requests for a
certification program - and an NCDR Data Abstractor Certification may become a
reality. NCDR has recently hired two persons, Kay Conley and Patricia Casey, who
will be diligently working on developing this program. Pat Casey, NCDR Director
of Training and Orientation, has over 30 years' experience as a cardiovascular
nurse and has a master of science degree in cardiovascular nursing, specializing
in adult education. Kay Conley, NCDR Associate Director of Training and
Orientation, has a diverse background that includes intensive care and a master
of science degree in nursing. Kay is currently ANCC board-certified in
professional staff development and has experience in need- based in-services and
Nursing Continuing Education Programs. Pat and Kay are budgeting for a
consultant in the first quarter of 2009 to look at the feasibility of developing
an NCDR program for certification and partnership opportunities with other
organizations. They will also be evaluating and creating a variety of
educational options to meet the needs of the participants.
CARE Registry
Collection Launched on cardiosource.com
CARE Registry collection was launched on
Cardiosource®. The goal of this multi-specialty collaborative is to provide
participants and physicians with relevant contemporary content from the CARE
Registry framed in the context of management of extracranial carotid artery
disease. Links to recent publications, case studies, clinical trial updates, and
upcoming conferences related to carotid artery disease and revascularization are
available.
As a reminder, each registry has its own page at
www.cardiosource.com, located just one click from the top, right
navigation under "Quality Improvement."
CARE Registry Publication
The CARE Registry® is the first
comprehensive national registry providing data characterizing contemporary
results of carotid endarterectomy and carotid artery stenting. Please see the
recent publication, "The
Carotid Artery Revascularization and Endarterectomy (CARE) Registry: Objectives,
Design, and Implications."
CARE Registry® Webinar
Carotid
stenting is less invasive than endarterectomy, but is it as safe in patients
with symptomatic carotid artery stenosis? Will the results of ongoing clinical
trials provide additional evidence to support treatment choices for carotid
artery stenosis? Attend the complimentary Webinar:

CathPCI Registry Participant
Update
The
CathPCI Registry has Version 4.0 specs complete and they will be going to
software vendors shortly. Please check for updates on the
NCDR website, including the new data
collection form and data dictionary. Please look for a few upcoming changes to
the 2008Y1 report. An email will be sent to participants with more details, so
please read the release notes along with the report.
IC3
Program® Update
More
than 150 offices are enrolled in the IC3 Program and data collection
is underway. Four practices are already successfully entering patient data using
the IC3 Program data collection tool - powered by DocSite®.
This data collection tool is a HIPAA-compliant Web-based application provided to
participating offices absolutely FREE. The tool can be accessed via the Internet
- allowing physicians and staff to access patient data from anywhere - satellite
offices, home, and even a BlackberryTM.
The State of Virginia Centra Health System pilot will be submitting its first
data transmission on June 30, 2008, using the EMR software, GE Centricity.
Technical discussions are being held with other EMR vendors to incorporate IC3
Program data elements into their software to allow the EMR IC3
Program participants to start collecting data later this year.
On June 2, the password protected section of the
IC3 Program Website was launched
to provide participants a secure site to maintain their practice and location
profiles, perform online user management, etc. The Website will be enhanced in
the near future to allow IC3 Program participants to perform other
tasks such as sending data files, viewing performance measures and reporting.
MAHI (Mid America Heart Institute) has been providing participant support to the
IC3 Program participants since May 1, 2008. For more information on
the
IC3 Program.
